The ASPEN-09-Breast Cancer Trial is recruiting patients at multiple clinical trial sites.

The trial is designed to study an investigational (a drug that is not approved for use) drug known as evorpacept, given together with standard HER2-targeted therapy, trastuzumab, and chemotherapy. Researchers will look at how trial participantsʼ cancer responds to the study treatment and also how well the study treatment is tolerated (i.e., its safety).

What is evorpacept?

Evorpacept is an investigational drug developed by researchers at ALX Oncology. It is an immunotherapy agent. Immunotherapies are intended to help the body's immune system to kill cancer cells.

How does evorpacept work?

Evorpacept is designed to block the activity of a protein known as CD47. This protein is found on almost all human cells. Its primary job is to send a signal to the immune system that essentially says, “Donʼt eat me!ˮ, helping to prevent the immune system from destroying healthy cells.

However, many types of cancer cells have also found a way to express CD47, which allows them to avoid being detected and destroyed by the bodyʼs immune cells. By blocking the “Donʼt eat meˮ signal that is sent by CD47 on the surface of cancer cells, evorpacept may help make these cells visible to the immune system so that they can be killed.

Can I enroll in the ASPEN-09-Breast Cancer Trial?

You may be eligible to join the ASPEN-09-Breast Cancer Trial if you are age 18 or older and have advanced (metastatic) breast cancer that has been previously treated with ENHERTU. Contact your doctor or a trial site near you to learn more.

If I enroll, how long is the study and what happens after the study ends?

ASPEN-09 trial participants will receive the investigational drug 1) as long as their cancer is not getting worse and side effects remain manageable as determined by their doctor, 2) until they choose to stop or their doctor advises stopping the medicine, or 3) until the trial ends.
